Canada were one game away from making an undefeated run to the ICC Americas T20 title for the second time after breezing to a seven-wicket win over Bermuda at Indianapolis World Sports Park. Bermuda managed just 114 for 7 after winning the toss, and an unbeaten 79-run stand between Jimmy Hansra and Srimantha Wijeratne took Canada home with 10 balls to spare.Bermuda’s batting stumbled early once again and had difficulty recovering: Dion Stovell was lbw playing across the line to fast bowler Cecil Pervez on the first ball of the match. Christian Burgess was out for 5 to make it 15 for 2 on the first ball of the fourth over as Hansra took a superb catch – a skier over extra cover that swirled in the wind off the bowling of Saad Bin Zafar. David Hemp, Bermuda’s leading scorer in Indianapolis, fell for 12, mistiming Satsimranjit Singh to Rizwan Cheema at cover.Bermuda captain Janeiro Tucker top-scored with 34 but survived a run-out chance before he had scored. Zafar had a clear shot at the stumps from short third man with Tucker six yards short and having given up, but the throw was errant. Tucker wound up lasting until the 15th over, adding 47 runs with Tre Manders before he was well caught by wicketkeeper Hamza Tariq off a thick edge while attempting to cut offspinner Nikhil Dutta. As he did against USA in a Man-of-the-Match performance, Pervez returned to produce a superb spell at the death to take a wicket in the 18th and 20th overs. Both times he clipped the top of off stump, getting Delray Rawlins for 24 and Josclyn Pitcher for a duck. Left-arm spinner Farhan Malik claimed Jacobi Robinson for 1 to round off the wicket-takers for Canada with Pervez’s 3 for 17 the best figures on the day.Canada’s chase got off to a slightly rocky start. Just as he did in the first game against Bermuda, Ruvindu Gunasekera pulled to fine leg but once again a straightforward chance was put down, this time in the first over before he had scored. Bermuda kept coming hard though and three balls later Cheema was beaten for pace on an attempted drive and bowled by Pitcher for 1. Gunasekera then fell on the first ball of the second when he was bowled by Jordan DeSilva for 6 to make it 7 for 2. Nitish Kumar entered at three and lasted until the final ball of the eighth, when he lofted Stovell to Manders at long off for 12.Hansra was joined by Wijeratne and the pair chased down the target with relative ease. He brought up his 50 in 46 balls with a single off Tucker to end the 15th before teeing off for a six straight down the ground off Robinson in the 16th. Three overs later, he finished off the match by hitting a towering six that ricocheted off the top of the sightscreen scaffolding on the north side of the ground to finish unbeaten on 68. Wijeratne was not out on 26. Hansra said Canada were not satisfied with being 5-0 and were motivated to go for an undefeated title run by beating USA in the tournament final on Saturday.”It means a lot. What we came here to do, we’re just one game away to accomplish that goal,” Hansra told ESPNcricinfo after the win. “We wanted to win convincingly. I think we’ve done that so far. Bowlers and batters have stepped up when needed. Tomorrow we know we have a good game. USA is going to come hard at us. We just have to keep calm and do the little things right and I think we’ll be fine.”

England's Mumbai practice match venue changed

England’s second practice match, originally scheduled at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Cricket ground, has been shifted to DY Patil Cricket Stadium in Mumbai

ESPNcricinfo staff18-Oct-2012England’s second practice match, originally scheduled at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Cricket ground, has been shifted to DY Patil Cricket Stadium in Mumbai.According to Ratnakar Shetty, the BCCI chief administrative officer, the venue change for the match in the first week of November came at the request of the local organisers, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). “The ECB team had done a recce and were happy but the MCA wanted the venue to be shifted and that has been approved,” Shetty said. The MCA had requested a shift in the venue citing security issues at the BKC ground, but the BCCI had rejected it. In the end, the MCA president Ravi Savant met the BCCI chief N Srinivasan and explained the reasons for MCA’s concerns, after which the venue change was accepted.”I don’t know how that match was scheduled at BKC,” Savant said. “But once the match is given to the association, it is our prerogative to hold the match anywhere we want. When we came to know about the ECB officials inspecting the facilities at the BKC Ground, we immediately wrote to the Board about considering the DY Patil Stadium as an option. The BCCI president was magnanimous in agreeing to shift the match to DY Patil during the meeting. And, within five minutes it was decided. The Mumbai Police had also raised some concerns regarding security.”Savant said that the England board had reservations regarding the choice of the venue too. “The fence around the ground is too low, so anyone can enter the playing area. There are high-rise buildings around. There are no basic facilities like toilets, a cafeteria and seating arrangements for public. So, the best option was to shift the match to the DY Patil Stadium which is a tried and tested venue.”

Cork to leave Hampshire

Former England allrounder and county veteran Dominic Cork will leave Hampshire at the end of the 2011 season

ESPNcricinfo staff10-Sep-2011Former England allrounder and county veteran Dominic Cork will leave Hampshire at the end of the 2011 season. While it would be premature to suggest that his departure will bring an end to a 21-year county career – there has been talk that another second division county may be interested in signing him – what is clear is that Hampshire have decided not to renew his contract for the 2012 campaign.Cork, who turned 40 in August, enjoyed some notable successes during his three-year stay at the Rose Bowl, winning the domestic 50-over competition in 2009 and the Friends Provident Twenty20 in 2010. He admitted he was considering his future in the game after captaining a young Hampshire side to the t20 title, but ultimately took Hampshire up on their offer of a deal for the 2011 season. He had been Hampshire’s captain since midway through the 2010 season, having begun his first-class career in 1990 and had a long stint with Derbyshire, where he was also captain, before joining Lancashire, until the move to Hampshire in 2009.Cork remained a consistent performer throughout his Hampshire stint, taking 94 first-class wickets for them at an average of 27.77, his best being 5 for 14 against Worcestershire in 2009. His presence was particularly felt in limited-overs cricket; both of Hampshire’s trophies during his time with the county having come in the shorter formats, and he contributed 43 wickets at an average of 24.06 in 45 domestic Twenty20 matches.”I don’t want to be picked because of what I’ve done in the past, I want to be picked because I can make that difference, and if I believe I can do that I’ll carry on,” Cork said after Hampshire’s Twenty20 triumph last year. “If I don’t think that then it’s time to let some of the youngsters take the ball and have a good time because it’s been a great career.” Hampshire have taken the decision for him and decided to place their faith in their set of promising young home-grown players.”Dom has made an outstanding contribution to this club over the last three years,” Hampshire manager, Giles White said. “He’s been a very popular figure and has played a huge part in a successful period in the club’s history. Two trophies and leading the club to another Finals Day says it all. We wish him all the best for the future.””Dominic has had a fantastic impact on this Club since his arrival in 2009,” Hampshire Chairman Rod Bransgrove added. “I should like to thank him for his commitment, enthusiasm and contribution over these three seasons and wish him every success in the future.”Hampshire will make an announcement on the long-term captaincy of the club in due course.

Ben Harmison leaves Essex rock-bottom

Ben Harmison just failed to record what would have been only his second Championship century as Durham settled for a draw against Essex at Chelmsford

10-Sep-2010
ScorecardBen Harmison just failed to record what would have been only his second Championship century as Durham settled for a draw against Essex at Chelmsford. He followed up his 66 in the first innings with 96 as the visitors finished on 234 for 6 after resuming the final day in pursuit of a victory target of 459.It was one they never attempted and for quite a while defeat stared them in the face. From an overnight 31 for 1, they lost another three wickets before the total advanced into three figures, two of them through gross errors of judgment, as Dale Benkenstein and Michael Di Venuto were both bowled shouldering arms.Benkenstein committed his error against off-spinner Tom Westley while Di Venuto gifted his wicket to paceman Chris Wright after scoring 58, which included eight boundaries.
When Ian Blackwell became an lbw victim of Westley with the total on 43, Essex looked firm favourites to claim only their third County Championship win of the season in their last game before dropping into the second division. But Harmison, with fine support from Phil Mustard, were to deny them with a stand of 91 in 38 overs before both teams called it a day. Harmison’s first fifty took him 142 deliveries but he was able to accelerate late on as Alastair Cook, with his gentle off-spin, and Westley concentrated mainly on getting through their overs as quickly as possible to ensure Essex were not penalised for a slow over-rate.But Harmison’s hopes of adding to the century he took off the Warwickshire attack three years ago ended when Cook tossed the ball up and he despatched it into the hands of Tony Palladino at long-on. His 96, spanning 197 deliveries, contained 14 fours, and his dismissal resulted in the players shaking hands to signal the end of the game.It was somewhat surprising as an hour still remained, but Essex were no doubt more concerned about setting off to Taunton as quickly as possible for tomorrow’s Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-final against Somerset. Mustard’s vigil brought him 24 from 103 deliveries as Durham emerged with six points.Essex picked up eight points but they were not enough to prevent them finishing bottom of the table.

Searing Seales seals the series in seven-wicket win for Windies

Brandon King anchors comfortable 228-run chase in Basseterre

Mohammad Isam10-Dec-2024West Indies 230 for 3 (King 82, Lewis 49, Carty 45) beat Bangladesh 227 (Mahmudullah 62, Tanzid 46, Seales 4-22) by seven wicketsWest Indies coasted to a seven-wicket win against Bangladesh in St Kitts to claim the three-match ODI series. It was West Indies’ first ODI series win against Bangladesh in ten years. They had won the last four ODI series between the two sides too. West Indies had on Sunday broken Bangladesh’s 11-match winning streak against them in the first ODI.Jayden Seales’ career-best figures of 4 for 22 led the home side’s bowling efforts as they bowled out the visitors for 227 in 45.5 overs. Brandon King then struck a rapid 82 to accelerate West Indies’ chase, as they completed the win in 36.5 overs. Captain Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford, who struck 113 in the first game, were the unbeaten batters who completed the game.Bangladesh meanwhile have won just one out of their last six ODI series, while West Indies have turned around their fortunes in the format. They have now won consecutive ODI series wins after beating England last month. They had lost ODI series against Australia and Sri Lanka earlier in the year.Seales gave West Indies the foundation for this win. He dealt three early blows before Gudakesh Motie’s solid 2 for 36 kept Bangladesh on a leash for much of the middle overs. Bangladesh could only make a 200-plus total mainly due to a 92-run stand between Mahmudullah and Tanzim Hasan. It is a new record for the eighth wicket for Bangladesh. Mahmudullah’s 62 was also his third consecutive fifty in ODIs.Before Seales took his wickets, Bangladesh got off to a rapid start when Tanzid struck debutant Marquino Mindley for two fours and as many sixes in the first three overs. Seales broke through soon, getting Soumya Sarkar caught at mid-on for two. Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz then followed Soumya in the first powerplay, both falling to Seales. Litton plodded along for four off 18 balls before his attempted pull shot was much too early, as it took the toe of the bat, and lobbed to point.Seales then caught Mehidy in two minds, as he tried to leave the ball but it took the inside edge and on to the stumps. Tanzid had kept Bangladesh going at the other end, but he couldn’t convert another start into a big one. After striking Justin Greaves for two fours in the eleventh over, he fell in the same over, caught at point. It was similar to how Tanzid fell in the first ODI.Afif then started well, hitting Romario Shepherd for four boundaries, lofting him twice over his head, and once over cover. Attempting a similar hit off Motie however, Afif fell to a catch at long-off for 24.Jaker Ali and Rishad Hossain Motie then followed quickly, and cheaply. Motie trapped Jaker lbw for three, before Rishad became Mindley’s first ODI wicket, falling for a duck.West Indies were making it look like a cakewalk as they reduced Bangladesh to 115 for seven at this stage. Mahmudullah, who had struck one six till that point, had to trust Tanzim, who previously had a first-class fifty to his name. Tanzim looked determined as he struck two fours before launching Motie for his first six over long-on. Mahmudullah had struck two sixes till that point. The pair then hammered Greaves for a six and a four in consecutive overs, before repeating the same dose a few overs later, on the same bowler.Roston Chase ended the partnership in the 44th over when he caught Tanzim off his own bowling. It was a fine effort from the young cricketer, hitting six boundaries in his 62-ball stay.Mahmudullah followed Tanzim back to the pavilion in the next over, bizarrely hitting Seales’ wide delivery down deep point’s throat. His 62 came off 92 balls, including two fours and four sixes. It is only the second time in his career that Mahmudullah scored three fifties in a row in ODIs.When the home side replied to Bangladesh’s 227, King got off to a strong start with five boundaries in the first seven overs, hitting the ball well square on both sides of the pitch. He moved to 26, while Lewis languished on six off 23 balls. Finally in the ninth over, Lewis struck Tanzim for three boundaries, including a flat six over long-leg.Lewis struck Mehidy for a huge hit down the ground in the 14th over before getting dropped next ball, when Soumya who couldn’t hold on to a difficult chance. Lewis was on 29 at the time. After King reached his half-century off 52 balls in the 16th over, Lewis slammed Mehidy for his third six shortly afterwards. His fourth was a bit of a revenge against Rana who had struck him in the unmentionables during the 20th over. The pair completed their second century opening partnership this year. King has been involved in West Indies’ last five century opening stands. This one ended when Lewis, still reeling from that Rana blow, gave Rishad a caught-and-bowled after making 49 off 62 balls. The wicket didn’t seem to lift Bangladesh who promptly conceded five runs in overthrows. Litton conceded four byes also. Keacy Carty took advantage of their errors, hitting five boundaries while King slammed three sixes in a short spell. He launched Rishad twice, apart from lifting Tanzim down the ground, and on to the roof of the pavilion building.King fell to a Rana yorker in the 29th over. The long shadow of one of the light towers on the pitch could be a reason for King missing that ball, but he walked off quietly after adding 66 runs for the second wicket with Carty. King struck eight fours and three sixes in his 76-ball stay. Carty fell soon after King, slicing a catch to Rana off Afif Hossain, after making 45 off 47 balls. Rutherford and Hope blazed Rishad for a four and a six respectively, in his eighth over.Rutherford played out the final rites of the series when he disdainfully swung Shoriful Islam over square-leg for two sixes in the 37th over, to complete the win.

RCB set to appoint Luke Williams as head coach for WPL

He will replace Ben Sawyer, and has won titles in the Women’s Hundred and WBBL in the last year

Matt Roller20-Sep-2023Royal Challengers Bangalore are set to appoint Australia’s Luke Williams as their new head coach ahead of the second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), thus replacing Ben Sawyer in the role.Williams has a burgeoning reputation as a coach, following a short first-class career between 2000-2005. He spent four seasons in charge of Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL and coached them to their inaugural title in 2022-23 after two previous finishes as runners-up.Williams was also Southern Brave’s assistant coach when they won their first title in the Women’s Hundred this year, and worked closely with Charlotte Edwards. He has also worked with South Australian Scorpions in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) in Australia.RCB had struggled in the inaugural WPL season earlier this year, finishing fourth out of five teams and winning only two of their eight group-stage games. And like they did with the men’s set-up, the owners have opted to overhaul the coaching staff ahead of the 2024 edition. Andy Flower, who had coached Lucknow Super Giants last season, has agreed for a three-year contract as head coach of the men’s side, replacing Sanjay Bangar.Mike Hesson left his post as director of cricket – across both men and women’s teams – in August, and ESPNcricinfo understands that Sawyer, head coach of the women’s team, will also not return next year.RCB invested heavily in their captain Smriti Mandhana ahead of the inaugural WPL. Their bid of INR 3.4 crore (USD 415,000 approx. at the time) made her the season’s most expensive buy. Mandhana, though, had a quiet season, scoring just 149 runs in eight innings. They had also picked a heavyweight squad comprising international stars such as Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight. They lost their first five games of the season, effectively ending their qualification hopes, before winning two of their last three matches to finish fourth, ahead of Gujarat Giants.

Mohammad Hasnain joins Worcestershire for rest of Championship season

Pace bowler has only played six first-class games but has 26 Pakistan limited-overs caps

Matt Roller23-Jun-2022Worcestershire hope that Mohammad Hasnain will help them “blast teams out” after securing his services for the final six games of the County Championship season as their second overseas player.Hasnain, 22, has only played six first-class games in his career but has won 26 Pakistan caps in limited-overs internationals and was cleared to resume bowling earlier this month after being called for a suspect action at the BBL at the start of the year.Hasnain is due to make his debut against Middlesex on July 11 and will stay in the UK for the rest of the season. He was previously signed by Oval Invincibles as a ‘wildcard’ overseas player in the Hundred and will join his compatriot Azhar Ali in the Worcestershire side.”Azhar knows him very well and helped us do a bit of research,” Alex Gidman, Worcestershire’s coach, said. “He spoke very, very highly of him as a young man and as a character and his skill set as well. He is going to be exactly what the group needs, some real power and energy.”The longer the season goes on, the harder it becomes, so to have some fresh impetus when we really need it is going to be good for the guys. He bowls very quick, so a different skill set to what we have, and he will hopefully give us a chance of winning more games.”Worcestershire are fifth in the eight-team Division Two after two wins, four draws and a loss in their first seven games but are a point off third and are hopeful of a strong finish to the season.Paul Pridgeon, the chair of the club’s steering group, said: “We are going to have a real crack at the Championship. On fairly flat surfaces with Dukes balls, he might just help to blast teams out.”Hasnain said: “I’m really looking forward to my first taste of county cricket. I want to help Worcestershire win matches first and foremost, but I also want to play more first-class cricket, and this is an ideal opportunity.”It will also be part of my cricketing education playing in England on different pitches. Azhar has had nothing but good things to say about Worcestershire. I’m looking forward to joining up, and hopefully, I can make a similar impact to him.”Azhar will miss two Championship games due to his involvement in Pakistan’s Test series in Sri Lanka next month but is due to return later in the season.Worcestershire have also been boosted by the news that Jack Haynes, their leading run-scorer in the Championship, has only strained knee ligaments after fears he had torn them. He could return in time for their fixture against Glamorgan this weekend.

Umar Gul appointed Quetta Gladiators bowling coach

The former Pakistan fast bowler replaces Abdul Razzaq

Umar Farooq12-Jan-2021Former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has been named bowling coach of Quetta Gladiators ahead of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League. He will replace Abdul Razzaq, who had been with the franchise for last four seasons, but had to step down after the PCB’s Conflict of Interest policy which barred associations’ coaches from being involved in the league. This will be Gul’s first ever coaching role after retiring from all forms of cricket last year.Gul, 36, represented Pakistan in 47 Tests, 130 ODIs and 60 T20Is from 2003-16. He decided to quit cricket following after National T20 Cup last year, where he played for Balochistan. He retired as a modern great of Pakistan fast bowling, being a leading wicket-taker during Pakistan’s run to the 2007 World T20 final, and also the leading wicket-taker in the 2009 edition, when Pakistan won the trophy. He spent much of this time heading the world T20 rankings, with a reputation as one of the best yorker bowlers in the format. His career best, five for 6 against New Zealand at the World T20 in 2009 were, at the time, the best ever T20 bowling figures.”Gul will bring in a wealth of experience to our franchise,” franchise owner Nadeem Omar said in a statement. “He has had a tremendous T20 career and clearly a standout successor for us to replace Abdul Razzaq, who had an exceptional time with us over the years. His[Gul] knowledge of modern day cricket will surely help and support our young fast bowlers like Naseem Shah and Mohammad Husnain. I am very excited to have him on board and I have no doubt that he can offer a great deal to our bowling unit for the upcoming PSL season.”Razzaq joined Gladiators in the second edition and has since then been a part time coach at the franchise. But the stint ends with the PCB’s new policy that was bought last year in which coaches who are involved with the domestic circuit cannot sign in any capacity with the PSL franchise to avoid any conflict of interest. Razzaq is presently a head coach of one of the sixth associations – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and is an active member of the national selection committee.ESPNcricinfo had reported last year that the PCB had introduced a clear-cut code of ethics which was set to have a far-reaching effects on various employees. Its ramifications are meant to clamp down on coaches or selectors working in the system with dual jobs that could cause a potential conflict. The policy could have effected Gul’s appointment as he is also a member of the PCB’s cricket committee, but the PCB confirmed that this appointment didn’t fall foul of their code of ethics.

Netherlands beat Scotland, but fall short of automatic qualification on NRR

Ten Doeschate scores unbeaten 51 but Dutch fail to move past PNG in top spot

The Report by Peter Della Penna in Dubai27-Oct-2019A disciplined bowling display laid the platform for another convincing victory for Netherlands over Scotland by four wickets at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday afternoon. But needing to chase a target of 131 in 12.3 overs to surpass Papua New Guinea on the tournament’s net run-rate tiebreaker for first place and an automatic trip to the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia, Netherlands could only reach 106 for 6.That means Netherlands (second in Group A) will now have to play UAE (third in Group B) in a qualifier, with the winner going through to the T20 World Cup. The loser will get another chance, in a second qualifier against Scotland (fourth in Group A).*With the PNG squad watching from the second tier balcony following their win earlier in the day over Kenya, captain Pieter Seelaar’s bowlers backed up his decision to chase at the toss in light of the net run-rate scenario by restricting Scotland to 130 for 8. But Scotland’s medium pacers dented the Dutch reply badly in the Powerplay. Tobias Visee fell on the fifth ball of the reply skying to mid-off, while Max O’Dowd slapped to mid-on in the fourth before Ben Cooper chased a wide ball to edge behind in the sixth, leaving the score 39 for 3 after six overs. At 55 for 3 in eight, Ryan ten Doeschate and Colin Ackermann produced a stirring rally with 35 runs across the next two overs. Ten Doeschate pulled Alasdair Evans twice over midwicket for six while Ackermann drove Richie Berrington for six over long-off then scooped a boundary over the keeper to bring the equation down to 41 in 15 balls to overtake PNG.But as he has done all tournament, Mark Watt made key breakthroughs in the middle overs. After conceding just four runs in the eighth, he struck twice in the 11th, bowling Ackermann and inducing a skied flick from Roelof van der Merwe to MacLeod at long-on for a third-ball duck. When Seelaar was given out stumped on the 12.3 over mark, the score was just 101 for 6 as the PNG squad erupted on the balcony, knowing they had just secured their first ever trip to the T20 World Cup.Ten Doeschate eventually carried the Dutch across the line with three overs to spare after reaching a half-century off 34 balls. It was the 39-year-old’s second of the tournament after a key knock in a win over Namibia.Scotland’s innings got off to a difficult start after a brilliant tactical plan came off to near perfection from Seelaar and Ackermann. The captain gave the allrounder the new ball to bowl his offspin at George Munsey, who had been tearing offspinners apart all tournament with the reverse sweep. But a very square deep third man was put in place to deny the boundary option. After hitting an orthodox sweep for four to the first ball he faced from Ackermann, Munsey was bowled second ball and left shaking his head.Matthew Cross was promoted up to No. 3 in the absence of Oli Hairs, who was ruled out of the tournament with a broken bone in his right foot, and produced a 41-ball fifty. But he struggled for support at the other end as Scotland lost wickets in clumps. Kyle Coetzer (17) and MacLeod (1) fell in the eighth and ninth overs, the latter to an lbw decision in which replays showed a clear inside edge.Berrington, Michael Leask and Craig Wallace all fell in consecutive overs from the 14th to the 16th to leave Cross struggling for options to tag-team for a late surge before Cross departed in the 17th as Scotland stuttered to the end of their innings. Seelaar was named Man of the Match as much for his captaincy as for his 2 for 12, claiming Coetzer and Wallace.*

Bailey tops list as Lancashire hurtle to bittersweet victory

Tom Bailey sealed his position as the leading wicket-taker in Division One as relegated Lancashire hurtled to victory

ECB Reporters Network26-Sep-2018
ScorecardLancashire’s comfortable eight-wicket victory over Hampshire could hardly have been more bittersweet. Not only had their relegation to Division Two been confirmed on the second day, the impending defeat of Nottinghamshire on the third was expected to confirm that if Lancashire had reached a third batting point on the second day – they fell 27 runs short – they would have stayed up.Keaton Jennings, who is about to face an England tour in Sri Lanka that could decide his Test future, supervised Lancashire’s chase for 113. They got home in 13 overs by eight wickets, losing two wickets in two balls during their chase of 113, as Hampshire’s veteran quick Fidel Edwards took his season’s tally to 54 wickets.Edwards found the outside of Alex Davies’ bat to bring a diving catch for Sam Northeast at third slip before producing a bullet delivery to dislodge debutant Brooke Guest’s off-stump.Jennings, though, carried Lancashire over the line in attacking style, carting Kyle Abbott for four boundaries in his first over.Liam Livingstone, 48 not out, added the remaining 73 with Jennings in aggressive style with the captain completing the eight-wicket victory by smashing Ian Holland over the top of the leg side in successive balls.Lewis McManus had started the day alongside Abbott with a lead of 92, but only four runs were added before the first of the two remaining wickets fell. Abbott, who ended the season with a creditable batting average of almost 26 from No. 10, was bowled by a big inswinger from Tom Bailey for 21McManus, now with Fidel Edwards, eked Hampshire’s lead over 100 before the West Indian was bowled, again by Bailey – who claimed eight wickets in the match. The scalp meant Bailey completed the campaign as the highest wicket-taker in Division One, with 64 wickets – seven more than teammate Graham Onions and Essex’s Jamie Porter, who had the chance to add more in an unfinished match at Kia Oval.It also meant McManus was left stranded on 44 on his first Championship appearance since June, having lost the wicketkeeping gloves to Tom Alsop. The defeat means Hampshire will have to wait until after Yorkshire’s match with Worcestershire is concluded to discover whether they finish fourth, for the first time in the club’s history, or fifth.
